Internet Gold

Unless you have been living under a rock for the past 48 hours you will not have missed the little piece of internet gold that was the BBC World interview of a University Professor which was brilliantly interrupted by his daughter, then his baby son and finally, in a desperate bid to save the situation, his wife.

The result was nothing short of a wonderfully entertaining and totally endearing dose of the real life parenting struggles many face trying to balance work and home life (just maybe not on live TV!).  It left most crying with laughter.  Here are our the five best bits as they happened.

Best family movies to watch this Christmas

The Polar Express

[sc name=”Above content Ad” ]

It’s definitely the start of Christmas once The Polar Express hits TV screens.  The animation is slightly un-nerving as it seems to be so life-like while at the same time clearly animated but it is a great movie for the kids.  Tom Hanks voices the train conductor who takes a carriage full of kids on an adventure of a lifetime to the North Pole where all sorts of weird and wonderful action takes place.

Youngest mothers of all time

0

Puberty is the time when one’s body starts maturing and preparing itself for sexual reproduction. While everyone reaches this at different times, the average age for girls is usually between 10 to 14. But in some very rare cases these children not only reached puberty at a young age but also became mothers soon after. Here are 7 of the youngest mothers ever that were still young children themselves when they started having their own children.

Wanwisa Janmuk

Wanwisa Janmuk is from the northern province of Phetchabun in Thailand where she was married off at the tender age of 8 to a 27-year old man. At that time this was a legal marriage in the eyes of the Thai government with the approval of their parents but the age has since increased to 17. By the time she was 9 in 2001 she had given birth to her baby girl in a local hospital and became the youngest Asian mother.

Many women in parts of the world are having children much later in life and are choosing to focus on careers before kids. Rather than starting a family in their 20’s, it is more common to see couples having their first child in their 30’s. Some women might even want to wait longer but later may see it as a race against their biological clock. Here are just a few fascinating stories of women that had a child well into their 60’s and even a few at the age of 70.

Largest families from across the globe

The world population continues to grow extremely rapidly. In 2010 we were at 7 billion and by 2100 there are estimates that Earth will hold an astounding 11 billion! In some ways it is surprising that the population is still growing so rapidly even though in many parts of the world women are having children later and life and not as many. But it appears that there are others that are compensating for the rest.

Most family friendly airlines in the world

0

Virgin Atlantic

[sc name=”Above content Ad” ]

Flying can be stressful in general, but for those with families, specifically young children, things can be even more chaotic than normal. Thankfully there are friendly airlines that are looking out for you and considering what issues families may face during their journey. Here are 8 airlines that go above and beyond many of the other airlines when it comes to taking care of families during their journey.

First off Virgin Atlantic.  Safety is definitely key when it comes to children and flying. Each of Virgin Atlantic’s infants seats fits every on board seat in any class. The in-flight entertainment devices are also catered towards families as they are parental controlled giving the parents comfort in knowing their child isn’t watching anything inappropriate. The little travellers also receive a red or black drawstring backpack along with a children’s eye-mask, socks with a cool design, a rainbow pen and even a travel journal/activity book. For those with infants, Virgin Atlantic has infant purees available as well as complimentary diapers and bottles if you run out.

Celebrities who have used a surrogate

[sc name=”Above content Ad” ]

Some couples or single parents choose to use a surrogate for various reasons. Financially though this is an extremely expensive process. Surrogacy is not a cheap option by any means. The surrogate receives between €18,000 (£15,500/$20,000) to €27,500 (£24,000$30,000), the egg donors receives between €4,500 (£4,000/$5,000) to €9,100 (£8,000/$10,000), and on top there are bills for the fertility clinic and doctors, surrogacy agency and the lawyers, insurance, fertility medication, and much more. Money though is hardly an object for these 7 celebrities that decided to go this route.

Best Halloween movies for kids (that are not too scary!)

0

The Worst Witch

[sc name=”Above content Ad” ]

Halloween is all about ghosts, monsters and of course witches.  Jill Murphy created the classic children’s book, The Worst Witch, back in the 1970’s and a whole series of books followed.  The original book was subsequently turned into a movie in the mid 1980’s and remains one of the best Halloween themed movies suitable for kids.

The movie centres around Mildrid Hubble, The “worst witch” at the Academy for witches, and all her mischievousness including turning herself invisible and turning Ethel into a pig.  Mildrid, however, redeems herself by helping overcome a plot to take over the Academy by Miss Cackle’s evil twin Agatha.

At only 70 minutes this is a great length for the younger kids who may get bored or distracted with any longer and as a G rated movie it is suitable for all the family.
