Youngest mothers of all time

Yelizaveta “Liza” Gryshchenko

Yelizaveta “Liza” Gryshchenko was from Kharkov, Ukraine and had turned 6 only 5 days previous to giving birth to a girl. Unfortunately her parents thought doing a C-section would be too dangerous and the baby girl was a stillborn due to early placental tear. Doctors later said the baby could have survived if the proper treatment and advice was taken during the delivery. The father of the child was her maternal grandfather who was 69 at the time. Because of the scandal that was unfolding, the family decided to immigrate to Vladivostok but the grandfather stayed with them during this move.

Lina Medina

The youngest mother though in medical history is Lina Medina from Peru. Her parents thought she had a tumor in her stomach so they took her to the hospital. It turned out this 5-year 7-month old girl was 7 months pregnant. In May of 1939 she gave birth to her son Gerardo by C-section. Gerardo was raised to think Lina was his sister until age 10 when he found out she was his mother. Her father, Tiburcio Medina, was arrested for sexual abuse but there wasn’t enough evidence to sentence him. Gerardo unfortunately died at age 40. Lina didn’t have her second child for another 33 years in 1972.
